Oboama is noted for its famous dance group called Abigbo. This dance group (Abigbo) originated from Oboama and it has spread around the entire Mbaise District of Imo State South East Nigeria.
Founded in 1996, Oboama Development Union, Inc. (ODUUSA) was established to provide forum for information sharing, structure and coordination of development efforts and assistance to the people of Oboama, Ezinihitte Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria and the surrounding communities. Visitors to Oboama are easily convinced that help is needed in almost every aspect of their life. Located 20 miles away from the nearest urban life, Oboama is like the forgotten town, not having sent any son or daughter to an elected office since the end of the Nigerian civil war. In the Nigerian scheme of things, the democracy dividend eluded Oboama. The level of poverty, despair and despondency warrants intervention and that is why ODUUSA is working hard, Making Strides, Changing Lives; One Project at a Time.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROJECT
We’re here to assist the less fortunate and to prepare for a better future for the younger generation of Oboama youth and their neighbors. The lack of basic human needs is a phenomenon that has long been associated with the developing world. What we aim to accomplish is to mitigate the absence of these basic needs by finding ways to expose school age children to what their counterparts in the developed world experience on a daily basis. For example, the right to learn and be taught in a classroom with doors and windows. How about having the opportunity to touch the keyboard of a laptop/computer? Would it be too western to provide school lunch for Kindergarten to 12th grade students at Oboama primary schools? How about providing just two lunches in a school week? For these scholars, these will be novelties. We seek to show them the gap that exists and provide an enabling environment for the school age youth to understand the need for education which in turn widens their horizons. ODUUSA is erecting a six classroom block, complete with an auditorium that sits 300 people. When completed, it will boast of a modern library, a computing center and a science lab.
ODUUSA cannot do this alone. We’re asking for assistance from the public; people who are concerned about the poor living standard of the future generation. Please go to Make a Donation for more
Your generous donation will fund our mission.
